Welcome to Sisu Counseling Services, my name is Tina Lips. Sisu is a Finnish word meaning strength of will or perseverance. It conveys fortitude amidst life's trials. We all encounter seasons of life some longer and some shorter in which we need help. My desire is to come along side people and help them find their strength of will - Sisu.
I have a desire to promote healthy relationships and empowering individuals, couples and families to develop strong emotional connections that are critical to satisfying and empowering relationships and to a life full of love and hope. The therapeutic process will be different for each individual, couple or family. It will be a collaborative effort tailored to best suit specific needs and goals. I place great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and value therapy focused on the humanity of each one of us.
I view therapy as an art as well as a science; dynamic and unique to each person(s). I will provide support, encouragement, education, insights, observations, and challenges but ultimately it is the person, the couple or the family's decision as to what changes they will choose to make.
I am passionate about helping parents and children develop a secure and safe attachment that promotes love, hope, and respect between all. Many of today's parenting issues can be addressed in improving the parent/child relationship. It is through a solid emotionally attached relationship with your child(ren) that we can begin to shape the environment in your home that is conducive to positive parenting strategies...strategies void of control, punishment and anger.
If you find yourself angry, stressed or simply overwhelmed by the task of parenting, you find yourself viewing your child as defiant and disobedient, or you simply struggle at finding good options for parenting then family therapy with an emphasis on the parent child bond may be just for you. Rather than giving you a model of parenting I will actively listen and observe your family. Then together we will build a customized parenting plan that is informed by solid parenting research yet uniquely tailored to your family.
